My Beautiful #RedCarpetCurlsRoyalty,

It’s that time again, time to meet another of our fellow curly sisters through our exclusive #RedCarpetCurlsRoyalty Series.

The #RedCarpetCurlsRoyalty Series showcases a new queen, her routine, hair type, and any advice she has to all our fellow queens struggling along their journeys. I found as we continue our journeys together, while yes, scientific articles are helpful, but on their own, they just aren’t enough. What good is all the technical information without proof that these methods work? This series serves to help queens with the specific hair type or needs the starring Queen has, but most importantly serve as motivation for the days that feel too hard to keep on trucking through.

If you would like to be featured as the next Queen of the #RedCarpetCurlsRoyalty series, make sure to use the hashtag (#RedCarpetCurlsRoyalty) on Instagram! You can also email me at contactredcarpetcurls@gmail.com to be featured.

Now, let’s get into our newest #RedCarpetCurlsRoyalty Queen – @Jazzgalaxycurls

I chose our lovely queen for this feature because she embodies the spirit of our sisterhood. Learning to fall in love with herself again, utilizing this method, and helping others to the best of her knowledge, apply this method and reap the benefits of the hard work. I love how simple and honest her YouTube Channel is, so make sure to follow her!

Remember my queens! Engagement is key to our sisterhood! That is what keeps this sisterhood flourishing!

Q) How Long Have You Been On Your Curly Girl Method/ Healthy Hair Journey?

J:  21 months

Q) What Is Your Hair Type? Include Porosity And Chart Number(Ex: 3a/3b High Porosity, Low Porosity, Etc.)

J: Ranges from 2b waves to 3b coils. Low density. Fine. Medium to high Porosity

Q) How Did You Get Started On The Journey? What Made You Want Change?

J: I volunteered at my cousin’s salon when they had a curly cut lesson. I got my first curly cut and style. Also, my best friend introduced me to shea moisture leave-in conditioner around the same time and I tried that out of the shower and started letting it dry natural!

Q) What Was Your Hair Like During the Transition Phase? What Were Some of Your Biggest Struggles and What Are Some Tips You Have For Those Currently Transitioning?

J: Looking back my hair was nothing like it is now for a LONG TIME of the transition phase. My head was full of wonky pieces that were half straight and kinky. I pulled my hair into a half-up style a lot during this phase. That would be my biggest tip is if you can to just pull back the top with bobby pins for a while and make sure to cut any dead off your ends!

Q) What Were Some Common Mistakes You Made Along Your Journey?

Not checking my ingredients and losing progress. I use the website curlbot now to copy and paste ingredients to check for curly girl safe products. Also, don’t compare yourself to others! Your hair pattern and end pattern are unique and beautiful to YOU.

* Please note Red Carpet Curls does have a guide on reading ingredient labels, please click here.

Q) Whats A Popular #CGM Product/Brand That Just Doesn’t Work For Your Hair And Why?

J:  The Mane Choice. For some reason, this brand seems to tangle up my hair. Even the conditioner. Also the Devacurl refresh spray! My hair ends up sticky and straighter no matter how I use it!

Q) What Are Two Things You Wish Someone Would Have Told You About The Journey Before You Started?

J:  1) It can take time! I started getting my best results OVER A YEAR in!

2) That not every great product that works for someone else will work for you and vice versa.

Q) What Are Some Of Your Favorite Products Or Brands That Work For Your Hair Currently And How Do You Use Them?

J: I love Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave-in and Cantu Curl Activating Cream. I use them alone or under gels. Aphogee Protein Treatment is a MUST for me every 6 weeks. Also, the Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Gel gives me curling iron ringlets every time without the crunch!

*Please note the aphogee protein treatment is two steps. Step one is the protein and is safe to use. Step two is a silicone-based deep conditioning treatment and is not CG approved. Please skip step two and follow your step one protein treatment with your own deep conditioner.

Q) How Does Your Haircare Routine Differ From When You First Started To Now?

J: When I was wavier I used more creams and leave-ins instead of gels. As my curls became curlier I notice I need more hold which means gels! And also more protein.

Q) What Other Changes Did You Start To Make In Your Life Once You Started Your Healthy Hair Journey (Ex: Weight Loss, Skincare Journey, Etc)?

J: Honestly inner confidence in myself and being proud of my natural hair.

Q) Give 5 Of Your Best Tips For Others With Your Hair Type

1. Use the smasters technique for no frizz! If you don’t know what it is you can look it up online or I have a how-to video on my youtube channel. I did NOT invent this method but it works great.
2. Less is more with creams. You don’t want to weigh down your fine curls.
3. No creams on your roots!
4. Switch up your parts for more volume
5. Protein treatments regularly to bring your curls to life

Q) What Differences Have You Noticed About Your Hair From Starting The Method To Now?

J: Complete curl pattern change and more shine! I went from wavy to curly and the structural integrity is so much better! Less split ends.

Q) Are There Any Other Pieces Of For General Advice You Would Like To Leave Our Readers With?

J: Yes!

  1. Don’t give up. Patience. There will be days you want to straighten or curls but don’t, it’s worth it!
  2. Knowing products for your hair is all trial and error so keep trying different things until you find something that works for you!
  3. Have fun!

Q) What Does The #RedCarpetCurlsRoyalty Sisterhood Mean To You?

J: This is such a beautiful way to join a community together. It’s not just hair…. its letting woman knows we are in this journey of natural beauty together to love ourselves in our true natural form. That we don’t need to change to be beautiful. It feels amazing and empowering.
